Created through intentional vertical camera movement, individual trees begin to dissolve into elongated bands while their direction and spacing remain visible. About the Photograph
Photographed in the forests of North Vancouver, Vertical Quiet began with the spacing and upward direction of the trees. During the exposure, vertical camera movement softened detail and extended the natural lines of the trunks, allowing the woodland to shift from recognizable landscape toward abstraction.
Rather than describing a specific forest scene, the photograph holds onto its essential structure, repetition, height, light, and the intervals of space between the trees. Within Sylvan, Vertical Quiet is one of the more restrained studies of the series, where movement is used not to create visual intensity, but to simplify.
